Brimming with confidence in front of a packed house, Rinaldi Sings ran through a 30-minute set as one of the evening's main attractions. The tough crowd were soon won over by the big sound, and by the time the band got to the cover version of 'Everlasting Love', Steve Rinaldi's accomplished showmanship had caught every eye in the house. Rinaldi Sings finished the set on 'Heaven Knows' and exited the stage to allow recent chart star Mark Joseph to run through an accoustic set of songs from his album. After Mark's set, Rinaldi Sings returned to the stage to encore with the Mod Aid charity record 'What'cha Gonna Do About It', and were joined on stage by Mark Joseph, Andy Ellison of John's Children, Chris Philpott of Small World, a host of singers, and some thundering Hammond from 17 Black.

HEADLINE BAND
Mark Joseph

SUPPORT BAND
Small World
17 Black, with Fay Hallam
Grasp
J60
Dan's People

CHELMSFORD: Bitterscene Club

  Rinaldi Sings live in Chelmsford
Originally uploaded by Alfie Elkins.
SET LIST
Avenues & Alleyways
Happy
Come Fly With Me
You're Alive
Melody
On A Magic Carpet Ride
Come Again
Rollercoaster
Lucky Day
A Matter Of Life And Death
Heaven Knows

ENCORE
Wha'cha Gonna Do About It?
Everlasting Love

Line-up: Steve Rinaldi (lead vocals & trombone), Chris Borsberry (guitar), Simon Lloyd (bass); Richard Hunter (drums); Andy Brush (sax); Tim Pannell (trumpet/guitar)

The first Rinaldi Sings gig of 2005 saw Steve and the band return to one of their favourite clubnights, Bitterscene at the Bassment Club in Chelmsford. As ever, 'A Matter Of Life And Death' proves the stand-out song of the evening - although the magnificent set-closer, 'Heaven Knows', once again pushes it close on the 'clapometer'. A sensational gig review follows in the NME. “Welcome to the surrealist splendour of Rinaldi Sings” offers the NME, before describing Steve Rinaldi as “a cocksure 21st Century Scott Walker”.

HEADLINE BAND
Ian Page & The Affair

CAMBER SANDS: Pontins

SET LIST
Avenues And Alleyways
Happy
Come Fly With Me
You’re Alive
Melody
On A Magic Carpet Ride
Rollercoaster
Lucky Day
Everlasting Love
A Matter Of Life And Death
Heaven Knows

Line-up: Steve Rinaldi (lead vocals & trombone), Chris Borsberry (guitar), Pete Hamilton (bass); Richard Hunter (drums); Andy Brush (sax); Martin Blagden (trumpet); Rowan Fenner (vocals)

In their first ever support slot, the band performed well in front of 2000 people at the 'Greatest Scooter Experience' festival in Camber Sands. But the band didn't let the disappointment show as they performed their usual set with confidence. However, an appearance on BBC Radio Liverpool not only results in airplay for the single, but after likening a Rinaldi Sings track to ’60s pop legends Honeybus, the band receive an interested letter from Honeybus singer Colin Hare.

SUPPORT BAND
The Uptight

   Rinaldi Sings at The Cavern
Originally uploaded by Alfie Elkins.

BATH: Purr Club @ Moles

SET LIST
Avenues And Alleyways
Happy
Come Fly With Me
You’re Alive
Melody
Rollercoaster
Lucky Day
Everlasting Love
A Matter Of Life And Death

ENCORE
Heaven Knows

Line-up: Steve Rinaldi (lead vocals & trombone), Chris Borsberry (guitar), Tim Charlton (bass); Trevor Smith (drums); Andy Brush (sax); Tim Pannell (trumpet)

A good sized crowd packed into Moles Club for the weekly Purr club-night to see Rinaldi Sings headlining an eclectic bill of oddball pop. But by the end of the night the packed Dublin Castle crowd had been won over and the band left the stage to an ovation of stomping, cheering and clapping. Rowan Fenner, who featured on many of the studio recordings, made her first live appearance with Rinaldi Sings. The inquisitive crowd tonight included former Creation Records label manager Edward Ball (currently directing the video for the first Rinaldi Sings single) and Simon Dine of Noonday Underground.

SUPPORT BAND
Kelly's Heels

Rinaldi Sings at The Dublin Castle
Originally uploaded by Alfie Elkins.

CHELMSFORD: Bitterscene Club

SET LIST
Avenues And Alleyways
Happy
Come Fly With Me
You’re Alive
Melody
On A Magic Carpet Ride
Rollercoaster
Lucky Day
Everlasting Love
Come Again
A Matter Of Life And Death
Heaven Knows

ENCORE
White Horses
Avenues And Alleyways

Line-up: Steve Rinaldi (lead vocals & trombone), Chris Borsberry (guitar), Tim Charlton (bass); Trevor Smith (drums); Andy Brush (sax); Tim Pannell (trumpet)

Tonight the Bitterscene club-night at The Basement attracted a discerning mix of music fans, and Rinaldi Sings offered just the right mix of northern soul pop and high camp showmanship to delight this Essex in-crowd! The band debuted 'Come Again' and added a reprise of 'Avenues & Alleyways' to the encore. The cover version of 'White Horses' has been reworked, stripping out the edgy guitar and returning the song to its pure pop roots. Check out pictures on the Bitterscene site…

CAMBRIDGE: Man On The Moon

SET LIST
Avenues And Alleyways
Happy
Come Fly With Me
You’re Alive
Melody
On A Magic Carpet Ride
Rollercoaster
Lucky Day
Everlasting Love
A Matter Of Life And Death
Heaven Knows

ENCORE
White Horses

Line-up: Steve Rinaldi (lead vocals & trombone), Chris Borsberry (guitar), Tim Charlton (bass); Trevor Smith (drums); Andy Brush (sax); Tim Pannell (trumpet)

The very first gig by Rinaldi Sings was a great success.
